As earnings season grinds on, Wall Street has been pleasantly surprised by the results. Sometimes the pros might be bearish on a stock, while simultaneously raising their earnings expectations for that very same company. Taking advantage of the difference between what Wall Street says will happen and where they expect earnings to go can prove a profitable trading strategy. Just ask Sam Burns, founder and chief strategist of Mill Street Research, an independent investment research firm geared towards institutional investors. CNN —Rory McIlroy has said that two heated rows with American caddies left him wanting to “make it hurt” for Team USA, as Europe channeled rage into results to regain the Ryder Cup on Sunday. GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Only one American truly had reason to celebrate after the Ryder Cup ended with another home win for Europe. Europe’s win streak at home in golf’s biggest team event will now extend beyond three decades. Cantlay denied the report and one American after another talked about what a great atmosphere there was within the team. “Give us a week after the Tour Championship, or two weeks after, and then go, instead of five,” Spieth said. But I am so proud of my 12 guys," said Europe skipper Luke Donald, whose team seized control of the 44th Ryder Cup on Friday with a 4-0 sweep of the morning foursomes. The 32-year-old Fleetwood, who picked up three points from his four matches, had not expected to be centre of attention. Northern Ireland's McIlroy, playing his seventh Ryder Cup, beat dogged rookie Sam Burns 3&1. McIlroy, Europe's talisman, ended up with four points to take his career Ryder Cup tally to 18, and said it made up for the pain of Whistling Straits. But Fowler drove his tee shot into water at the par-four 16th and when Fleetwood found the green, Europe could breathe easy.

ROME, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Europe were galloping towards reclaiming the Ryder Cup as they turned the scoreboard blue with a burst of birdies in the early singles matches against the United States on Sunday. With the Marco Simone course again bathed in sunshine and thousands lining the fairways, Europe set about taking the four points they needed to seal the deal in ruthless fashion. Europe captain Luke Donald top-loaded his singles order with world number three Jon Rahm, number four Viktor Hovland and number two Rory McIlroy, who was involved in some unsavoury scenes the night before, in the opening four matches. Outplayed virtually from the start of the 44th edition of the Ryder Cup, Zach Johnson's U.S. team had given themselves some hope by winning Saturday's afternoon fourballs 3-1 to trail by five points heading into the 12 singles duels. After the early action on Sunday, however, avoiding their worst-ever defeat could be a more realistic target.

1 Scottie Scheffler was left in tears after suffering a defeat of historic proportions at the Ryder Cup on Saturday. On paper, Scheffler and Koepka looked a pairing more than capable of finally securing a first win for US captain Zach Johnson. Both major champions, Koepka boasting five, the experienced Americans were facing a pair without a major crown between them and in Aberg, a 23-year-old Ryder Cup rookie who turned pro less than 100 days ago. It eclipses the previous 18-hole Ryder Cup winning margin record of 8&7, both inflicted by Americans in singles matches; Tom Kite over Howard Clark in 1989, and Fred Couples over Ian Woosnam in 1997. “Yesterday was an amazing day and we wanted to enjoy it because it’s not very often you go out on a full day in a Ryder Cup and don’t lose a full point,” McIlroy told reporters.

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Rory McIlroy lost his match at the Ryder Cup. That incident prompted another angry exchange involving McIlroy as he left the Marco Simone club. McIlroy was seen to be visibly furious outside the clubhouse as Jim “Bones” Mackay, the caddie for Justin Thomas, attempted to intervene. European captain Luke Donald said McIlroy “politely asked Joe to move aside.” McIlroy still had a putt for birdie to tie the match, which he wound up missing. CNN —Rome turned blue as Europe stunned the United States in a Ryder Cup opening battle for the ages at Marco Simone Golf Club on Friday. The five-point advantage for captain Luke Donald’s side marks the joint-highest lead following the opening round in Ryder Cup history, equalling the records set by Europe and the US in 2004 and 1975 respectively. Team USA, without a victory on European soil in 30 years, will need a roaring response if they are to bring an end to the streak come Sunday. It looked more like the start of a city marathon than fans heading into a golf tournament, but such is the Ryder Cup’s unique brand of appeal. A thrilling fourballs session was going the way of the Americans as they led in three matches deep into the back nine. But Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm and veteran Justin Rose ensured Europe won it 2-1/2 to 1-1/2, with three matches that went all the way to the 18th. "That was my moment there on the 18th -- I've made us a lot of points but I haven't had many moments like that so that was immense," Rose, playing his sixth Ryder Cup, said. Hovland was majestic as he and Aberg, the first Ryder Cup player not to contest a major, proved too hot for Homa and Harman to handle in match two. Matt Fitzpatrick, playing with McIlroy, earned his first Ryder Cup point in stunning fashion with four birdies and an eagle in an early blitz that Morikawa and Schauffele never recovered from, losing 5&3.

Around 150,000 fans will descend on the spectacular course over the next three days -- the majority of them roaring on Europe in what their captain Luke Donald hopes will be "the loudest Ryder Cup" ever. At the ceremony in the fan zone, cheers erupted as Europe's players were introduced by former world number one and four-time Ryder Cup player Donald -- the loudest reserved for England's Tommy Fleetwood and talisman Rory McIlroy. The lure of the Eternal City and the magic of the Ryder Cup means there will be plenty of stars and stripes mixed in with the yellow and blue of Europe over the next three days, with hundreds having made the trip across the pond. "You are the heartbeat of this event, you are our 13th man, let's make this the loudest Ryder Cup ever," Donald, who began his speech in Italian, said as he signed off. The opening game features Spain's Jon Rahm and England's Tyrrell Hatton against world number one Scottie Scheffler and rookie Sam Burns, followed by Scandinavian duo Viktor Hovland and newcomer Ludvig Aberg versus Open winner Brian Harman and world number seven Max Homa, both also rookies.
